Overview

Becomy storefronts run on installable themes, fully compatible with the Shopify OS 2.0 theme format (sections, blocks, JSON templates, Liquid). Studio → Appearance is split: Overview (live/draft status), Themes (visual catalog), Theme editor, Menus, SEO & sharing, Custom site (AI generation, advanced), and Theme coaching (30 min video call).

There are three ways to get a theme:

Install one from Appearance → Themes — Nude (editorial), Dawn (OS 2.0 reference), Sample (dev), or a Showcase vertical (Solstice, Abysse, Ruelle, and more).
Generate one with AI from inspiration sites you like (Appearance → Custom site).
Import your existing Shopify theme as a ZIP if you are migrating (see Import from Shopify below).

Tip: New stores automatically receive Dawn on creation.

Install a theme from the catalog

From Appearance → Themes, pick a theme in the catalog:

Open Appearance → Themes and click Install as draft on a theme card (Dawn or a Showcase theme recommended).
You land in the theme editor to adjust sections, colors and content.
Publish when ready — changes go live on your store domain.

AI theme generation

Becomy can build a custom theme for you from sites you admire. The generator looks at your inspiration pages, builds a theme, takes screenshots (desktop and mobile), compares them to the reference and iterates to get closer — each run gets a visual score.

In Appearance → Custom site, fill the AI generation form: the home page URL of your inspiration site is required; product, collection, content page and blog URLs are optional but improve the result.
Generation runs in the background — follow its status, iterations, score and screenshot comparisons in “Recent runs”. Failed runs can be retried.
Generated themes appear on the Custom site page with their visual score: Preview opens them on your storefront without going live, Open in editor lets you refine them.
Publish live when satisfied (confirmation required), or delete the attempts you don't keep.

A generated theme is a normal theme: you can edit every section and setting in the editor, or ask the AI assistant to refine it.

Import your Shopify theme

Migrating from Shopify? Import your existing theme:

In Shopify: Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Download theme file to get the ZIP.
In Becomy: Studio → Settings → Shopify migration → Theme (ZIP), upload the file. The theme is installed as a draft, never published automatically.
Review the compatibility report (unsupported Liquid objects or app blocks are flagged), adjust in the editor, then publish.

Theme editor

The theme editor shows a live preview of your store with a sidebar of template sections. Edit settings, reorder sections, add blocks — everything the theme's schema allows.

Sections & blocks: add, remove, reorder and configure them per template (home, product, collection, pages…).
Checkout: the checkout page is customizable too — open it from the theme editor (checkout template).
Menus: header and footer navigation are managed in Studio → Appearance → Menus.

AI assistant

The theme assistant can modify your draft theme through MCP tools: change colors and typography, edit section settings, add or remove sections and blocks, update menus, even edit Liquid files. Describe the change in plain language (“make the announcement bar black with white text”), review the preview, and publish when happy. Risky operations (layout files, publishing) require explicit confirmation.

Publish

Edits apply to your draft theme and stay unpublished until you click Publish (in the editor, Appearance overview/Themes, or via the assistant with confirmation). Only one main (live) theme per store; previous published themes are kept so you can roll back by publishing them again.

FAQ

Can I keep several themes?

Yes. Installed, generated and imported themes coexist; only one is live (main). Unpublished themes can be previewed, edited, published or deleted from Appearance → Themes and Custom site.

The generated theme doesn't match my inspiration perfectly — is that normal?

Yes. The generator aims for the look and feel (layout, colors, typography), not a pixel-perfect copy — and never copies content. Check the visual score and screenshot comparisons, retry a failed run, or refine the result in the editor and with the AI assistant.

What happened to the old page builder?

GrapesJS pages and the Design admin screens were retired. All storefront pages are now rendered from your theme templates.
